and the bucket and broadway

i am 25 and trying to figure out what to do with my life, so in the meantime i am teaching myself photography and poetry. check out my poetry at www.lillianmeredith.com

The time is now for action

And all the troops are smart enough to see the patterns

To say oh man and here she blows again

Not enough not enough the trumpets sound

But the drums of war beat back

Rat a tat too too tam tam fuck off

It’s far it’s near and everywhere surrounded

But the souls of warriors gone have come back to haunt the grounds

And say I know this game I’ve seen it all before

Step up boys and fight or you’ll be gone for sure

And one or two are missing from the ranks

Gone back to funeralled pastures where fallen men lie under daisies

And picking flowers crying unmanly tears they shout

I would take this fate too if you would let me

Too long since I have written epic poems of love

I am scared I will forget the rhythm and the rhyme

I am frozen now in time and lost, and lying down they take the easy way out

But the other men throw icy water on their faces and say with steel and iron

Too long since I have halted in my steps for fear of never more

Or fear of myself with a gun in my hand and one in yours

I know too much to return to those pastures of plenty

Love and grief and endless precedented nights have taught me

There is a moment I recall that felt in glimmers something like this

And I did live! They shout in anticipated glory

And I will live again!
